Discovering Breed Based Puppy Training Seattle

By Roger Evans

When it comes to owning a dog, it can be a long journey from puppyhood to adulthood. If planning on acquiring puppy training Seattle, it is important to do so as early as possible. In most cases, puppies can start classes between four and six weeks of age. Generally, there are multiple class levels which offer everything from basic to agility courses.

While there are classes offered at pet store chains such as Petco and PetSmart, many are also available at a number of pet hotels and kennels. It can often be easy to find these classes through dog focused websites such as Fido.com and others. Whether attending a class at a pet store, hotel or kennel, it is generally required that the owner attend sessions along side the pet.

An owner is often required to attend as doing so not only strengthens the bond between owner and pup but also allows the dog to learn how to obey others. For example, if the dog were allowed to be taught solely by the instructor, then it can be difficult for the owner to get the pup to obey commands at home. Whereas, by having dual instruction, puppies tend to learn to obey others such as handlers, owners and pet sitters as well as trainers.

Most classes start with basic command classes which include common commands such as sit, stay, come, lay down and heel. Whereas, intermediate classes offer a bit more in the way of playfulness such as fetch, jump and roll over. Whereas, the advanced classes tend to teach agility and coursework.

Once a dog completes all levels, many trainers will provide a Good Behavior certificate. Whether or not the certificate is government sanctioned often depends on the licensing of the trainer. While this is the case, a Good Behavior certificate does not certify the animal to be a service or therapy dog but is a good start if one is planning on additional training that regard.

Service animals are a different breed when it comes to learning. For, most often there is a two year course which an animal must complete to become licensed as a service dog or other animal. For, these animals have to learn a great deal more than basic commands in order to assist and protect owners over the course of a lifetime.

While therapy dogs can go through a training program, if a dog is a kind, loving and dependable pet whom has shown no aggression towards other animals or people, an individual can often declare the animal as a therapy dog and take the animal to hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers and senior centers with permission of owners and staff.

In either case, it is important to note the some breeds respond better than others. For example, while most dogs respond well to professional classes, the methods used can often differ. In some cases, standard voice training is enough for a dog to learn various commands and actions. Whereas, when it comes to bully breeds and others, click and electronic methods are often a better choice.
