Talking of finding the right kitten, it is imperative to buy from reliable breeders. Some breeders claim to have the best cats, but this is not always the case. Avoid taking home cats that have been with their mothers for twelve weeks or more as it is not easy for them to adapt to the new environment. Take home kittens that are eight weeks old to make it easy for you to help the kittens adapt. However, you have to show them a lot of love and care.

Before you bring the pet home, it is imperative to prepare your home. You should make sure that your home is cat proof. This means that you may need to clean your house and put away some item, medicine and any other things that you would not want broken.

Your cat will also need some supplies to live a comfortable life. You should not wait to rush during the last minute. Have everything ready before they arrive. For instance, make sure that you buy a softy blanket, toys, food, feeding and watering bowls, litter boxes among others.

You should also set a room where you will put the pet first. The room should contain water, food, liter tray, hiding places and bedding for the pet. Ensure that the room is safe for them too. Leave them to explore the room alone for some time. Then have some time with them in the room. Speak quietly and gently and show her love and attention.

Give the cat small toys that are easy to carry like a prey. You should not allow the pet to get bored. Rotate the toy she is using and keep off some of the toys to ensure that she has a new toy to play with each day. In case you have kids who love to play with the cat, make sure that they do under your observation. You would not like a situation where the cat hurt the kid and vise versa.

Also, you need to make sure that your cat does not shrink every time she hears sounds. For instance, some cats may freak out at the sound of water pouring from the faucet, or at the tune of mistake on your CD. You should expose the pet to all the experiences and sounds you think can scare her.

You should find out the type of food the pet was eating before you brought her home. Ensure that you buy the exact food and you follow the schedule she used to follow when it comes to feeding. You can later change the diet once the cat has adapted to the new environment.
