Important Aspects Of Dressage Lessons

By Kevin Murray

Training animals is no easy task especially when handling wild species. Despite the difficulty, their owners try to look for different methods to ensure that they act right. Most owners prefer to start training when the animals are still young, as they will take to the changes easily. The following paragraphs explain how dressage lessons are carried out.

Allow your horse to be more familiar with you. This is by spending time together doing the simplest of things. It could be bathing it regularly or taking it for walks. This impact horses positively to a point where it can trust and respect its owner. This makes it possible for the animal to listen to this individual when being instructed to move in a certain direction.

Purchase materials needed for dressage. The rider needs to dress appropriately by choosing comfortable outfits. Boots are perfect as they are firm and prevent injury. The horse needs to have a saddle placed on its back. This prevents injury to the animal and allows riding to be comfortable. A bridle is also needed as it guides movement.

Warm up and allow for time to rest. Before starting training, the horses need to do a couple of exercises. These prepare the muscles for the vigorous activity that is to follow. The animals have to repeat a number of movements until they get things right. They are likely to get tired after some time and for this reason, they should be allowed time to rest so that they are able to rejuvenate and practice later.

Teach the simple steps first. There is so much to learn when it comes to dressage. Before moving on to complex steps, basics must be understood. The horses are trained on trotting, walking among other movements. These are usually characterized by the different speeds that the animal moves. Continuous practice will lead to great results.

Transition smoothly. After learning each kind of movement, the next important thing is learning how to transition from one style to the next. A still horse needs to walk and after that start trotting and include other movements. Practicing enables the pony to do this with ease and at the same time maintain balance. This will ensure a comfortable ride for the person on the animal.

Wrap support bandages on the horse during training. The bandages usually have some padding on them and this serves to prevent injury. Those tying the bandage must ensure that it is not too tight or too loose. A tight fitting bandage will make movement difficult whereas a loose one will not serve its purpose. At the end of the practice session, the owner needs to remember to remove them.

Learn the proper position to maintain when on the horse. One needs to maintain an upright sitting position and ensure that the feet always face the ground. In this way, the weight will be balanced across the saddle and make the person ride with ease. The feet should be placed on the iron bar that is meant for foot support. The movement should only be initiated once the person is in a relaxed position.
