Beautiful Sable Sheltie Puppies For Sale

By Christopher Stone

Everybody knows about Shetland sheepdog. This lovely breed is one of the most popular on the world for quite some time. This dog is highly recognizable by his feathered long coat and lovely, gentle nature. Although all color variations are popular, Sable is probably the most loved one. Beautiful Sable Sheltie puppies for sale can be found somewhere near your home, and you can go there and check them out.

When it comes to a Sheltie's color, there are two basic coat colors recognizable, Black and Sable. On the other hand, there are three separate color genes, and every dog carries two of them, in different combinations. That's why Shelties are usually divided into Sable, Bicolor and Tricolor type. Sable has red coat with black overcoat, with whites on various parts, bicolor has black coat and tricolor carries all three colors, although there are also various combinations.

One separate gene is called Merle, and it is independent from those two basic color genes. Carriers of a Merle gene have patterned coats and sometimes blue eyes. It's not allowed to combine two Merle carriers together, because the puppies are often born blind and with hearing problems. Merle gene is quite obvious when puppies are still young, but it might be hard to visually determine this gene when the dog is older.

Sables can be light red, golden or dark, mahogany red, almost black. Anyway, this particular color variety is probably the most popular one. Young puppies have less white on their bodies, but it will change when they become older. Both males and females will be up to 41 cm in height, and up to 12 kg in weight, although they might look larger, thanks to their feathered coats.

Thanks to their long feathered coats, these dogs are really attractive, but grooming is not so easy. To avoid mats, you have to comb and brush your dog regularly, especially in those periods of more excessive shedding, when they change their summer and winter hair. Most owners also trim their private parts to ease the hygiene.

Most purebreds have several well known health issues. Good breeders mostly issue health certificate for their puppies, and this could be the best way to make sure they probably won't have problems with genetic diseases. Even so, finding a good vet is something you have to do, for regular vaccinations and checkups.

Keep in mind that this is one highly intelligent dog who needs mental and physical challenges to be happy and satisfied. Early socialization is extremely important, to avoid behavioral issues and boredom, as well as excessive barking later on. Even so, these dogs tend to react on sudden loud or strange noises and movements, and you have to be gentle with them.

Well trained and socialized dog will be happy, healthy and especially responsive and polite. Thanks to his high intelligence and good nature, as well for his ability and willing to learn, Sheltie is really unique family pet. He copes greatly with children, although, just like with all dog breeds, you have to be very careful when it comes to very small children, because they could be too much for any dog.
