Nothing beats a pet for companionship, just ask any pet owner out there. Usually the general trend will be between either a puppy or a kitten for starters. But before you do, you should know a little bit about the history of this canine and other good information.

This breed has ancestors of the mastiff line that were very popular during the age of the ancient Greeks. They were made popular by the sport of bull baiting, in which they fight to the death with bulls. This breed was also widely distribute along Phoenician trade routes to feed the demand for these animals due to the sport. As time went on however, the sport was outlawed and many of these mastiffs were domesticated as pets and household companions.

Almost similar to the English bulldog, it is much smaller. It does have a more compact and wider body with short legs, and also it sports pointy or pointier ears. In terms of temperament, the French bully is much friendlier than its English counterpart and it is much safer to leave in the presence of small animals and even children.

It does however always make an excellent companion according to owners of the breed. Even then, the French bully is a dog that demands or hoards attention all the time. Should it feel that its attention needs are not being met, it will let out a ululating sound which many have termed as the French death yodel. Females of this breed can be expected to be very protective of their young and of those around her.

Due to its size, it has a compact airway. This compact airway, coupled with its snub nose will give it complications in terms of temperature regulation in extreme weather. It is not uncommon to hear of deaths to this breed caused by extremely hot or cold temperatures. It is really a dog that is more in tune with temperate climates, and so owners from places that are too cold or too tropical should think twice about getting this dog as a companion.

In terms of average lifespan, it sports one of the shortest for a a dog, averaging only 8 to 10 years. This of course can be extended a bit more with proper care and nutrition. As it gets older do expect cataracts to form in its eyes.

Just like its English relative, this dog is really built for indoor and small space living. It is very content just sitting still for hours on end. It will of course be recommended that you take it out for walks of at least thirty minutes a day for it to improve its circulation and to stretch its legs.
