As a matter of fact, the tags are supposed to stay on the pet for the rest of its life.

Also, necessary vaccines and immunizations must be provided to the pet before the license is issued. Thus, all pets that are licensed are safe from diseases such as rabies, which are very prevalent among pets that are not registered. Registration makes pets safer for people and the environment.

To have a pet registered, one must pay a certain fee. The fee may differ based on the types of animal and its breed. Bigger animals will usually cost more to register than small ones. The renewal of a license every year also costs a certain fee. However, the fee is usually very small to be of any significance. The money that is collected by the government as fee for registration of pets is used for many purposes.

To begin with, it is spend on improvement of local animal facilities. Such facilities include animal shelters and animal rescue operations. Also the money is used in handling of animal-related investigations and complaints. Also, the money goes towards footing a wide range of free services that the local government provides to the community.
