Some of the oldest cats in existence today are the Egyptian Maus. Though there is no tangible proof yet, there are assumptions that they existed in the ancient Egypt. Many characteristics are still retained from their ancestors though they are domesticated for a long period of time. Many people prefer this type of kitten because of their characteristics. The breed has a spotted coat that may assume one or several colors. Most of them have coats that are bronze, pale silver, or silver in color. The eyes are large and have gooseberry-green color. The ears may be medium-sized of large in size while the head is usually shaped like a wedge. They are generally masculine cats, with a great physical shape and appearance.

The hind legs of the kittens are longer than the front legs. They appear as if they are standing on their toes. They have a thick based and medium tail. In comparison to other domestic cats, the Mau kittens are the fastest. They are credited with the run of skin that is from the flank to the hind legs. During motion, the layer of the skin allows the cat to move malleably.

Body parts which are colored smoke often a silky medium-sized coat with fine texture. On the contrary, portions that have silver and bronze colors often have dense and resilient texture. The body spots are randomly placed and vary in size a lot. They may be very small or very big and are shaped differently. These cats have a dark-tipped tail, which is one of their distinctive features.

Besides the smoke, bronze, and silver colors, the coat in some cats may also be blue silver, blue smoke, solid black, solid blue, and blue spotted. These additional colors are however not permitted in cat shows. Nevertheless, cats with these colors make good pets and possess all the characteristics of Egyptian Maus.

The cats should have proper care. This includes combing their coats on weekly basis. An individual has to aim on removing the dead hair from the coat. This should happen during combing of the hair. The teeth should be brushed. This is because of the periodontal diseases that can be caused when the teeth of the cats are not brushed. It is recommendable for the teeth to be brushed on daily basis. Trimming of the nails is also a necessity.

Dirt from the eye can be removed when the eyes are wiped using a clean piece of cloth. When cleaning the animal, separate portions of the cloth used should be used for cleaning the eyes. This is a way of preventing spread infections on both eyes. A soft piece of cloth is supposed to be used when cleaning the ears of the cat and this should be done on weekly basis.

When cleaning the ears, the water used should be warm. Cider vinegar should also be added to the warm water to increase its efficiency. Cotton swabs should not be used to clean the ears because they cause damage. The litter box used by the cats should be kept clean at all times.
