Before You Go And Visit Your Local Cavachon Breeder

By Carol Stone

Before you came to start reading this article you would probably have been across some signs or advertisements showing dogs or cavachons for sale. In fact you may have a mind to visit your local cavachon breeder to get yourself a puppy. However, before committing to this breed it may be a good idea to finish reading this article first.

The cavachon is a mix between two distinct and popular breeds being the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, a sporting dog, and the Bichon Frise a non sporting one. In terms of overall temperament it will be a toss up what kind you will get, and it will be in the range of having a dog with a friendly and playful personality to one that is aloof and hard headed. You will only really know the real personality once it reaches maturity.

Average prices for this breed will be in the range of two hundred to five hundred dollars. If coming from a top breeder or champion kennel, it can reach up to over six hundred dollars, even more so if coming from champion parents. Should you not want to spend too much money, you can always try the local shelter to try your luck.

Housebreaking this breed may prove to be a challenge to many owners, especially first timers. They are one of the harder breeds to housebreak and will take longer when compared to other dogs. Before you do go crazy, it may be best to research the crate method on the internet as a possible strategy, one which many owners say works well for this breed.

The breed has very soft and silky, wavy coats that are a pleasure to touch and caress. You can basically choose three general colors for this dog which is white with black and tan markings, white, or apricot. The dog you will get will also tend to shed less the closer it is to the first generation of its breeding line. Remember to always give this dog a bathe at least every six weeks at the minimum and to try to give it regular, and if possible daily, brushings.

Some of the health concerns you should know about with the cavachon are quite a few but manageable. It is a breed that is prone to flea allergies and also heart murmurs. Ears are prone to more infections than other breeds due to it being hairier in the inside. Thus have its ears cleaned at least once a week either by yourself, or if you have a bit more of a budget, by your vet.

An advantage of this dog is its size. Since it is small it is quite capable of small space living as is needed in urban situations. It also does quite well as a travelling companion and also does well living on the road especially recreational vehicles.

This short article thus has shown some good bits of info that you should consider so that you can make an informed choice on this breed or not. Make sure that you also do a bit more research to make your decision rock solid.
