Chihuahua is the smallest dog breed that is recognized by some kennel clubs. It is named after Chihuahua state in Mexico. The animal is available in a wide range of colors, sizes, coat lengths, and head shapes among several other features. The history behind Chihuahuas is a big puzzle as their origin is a mystery. The height of the chihuahua is often not specified in breed standards. Breed standards only give emphasis on the weight and overall proportions. In general, the dogs range in height from 15 cm to 23 cm. However, some have been known to grow up to the height of 30 to 38 cm. For conformation, standards in the US and UK specify that the weight of the dogs must not exceed 2.7 kilograms.

One can buy a chihuahua of any color combination they want, ranging from marked or splashed to solid. The coat color may be solid white, solid black, spotted or sabled among other options. There is a great level of variance in the color combinations. Among the commonest colors are brown, cream, black, white, chocolate, mixed, fawn, red, and brown. All the colors and patterns are equally valuable and important.

Offsprings of a chihuahu usually inherit the temperament of the parents and grandparents. When provoked slightly, they are likely to attack the individual. This makes them unsafe for young children. However, they often pick one person to be fiercely loyal to. They will often overprotect the individual against other individual and animals even when it is unnecessary.

Chihuahuas are not good at coexisting with other dog breeds. They prefer staying with other Chihuahuas instead of other breeds. One can minimize some of these extreme traits by starting the socialization process while the chihuahua is still young. The dog should only be left to kids that are 13 years and above because they to be aggressive.
