When Searching For Siberian Cats Florida Is Worth Checking Out

By Pamela Scott

The Siberian cat also called the Siberian Forest Cat is a landrace species of domesticated cats. The species originates from the taiga of Siberia, which is a forested region with a subarctic climate. The cold weather is thought to have contributed to the long, thick protective coat that Siberians wear. These species of cats have existed in Russia for over 1000 years. They are often told Russian folktales. When in need of Siberian cats Florida is the best place to visit.

The importation of the first Siberian cat into the US took place in the year 1990 and by 1996, it was fully accepted and recognized by the International Cat Association. The American Cat Fanciers Association and the Cat fanciers Association accepted and started recognizing the breed in 1999 and 2006 respectively. That means that the latter took another seven years to recognize this breed. The popularity is on the rise partly because people think that it is hypoallergenic.

The hypoallergenic quality of Siberians might or might not be true. The decision usually lies with the individual who have come in contact with the animal. However, there is a lot of ongoing research towards confirming the hypoallergenic claim and enhancing it if possible. There are many research organizations around the world that are involved in the research. There are also claims that the amount of Fel d1 produced by the cat is lesser compared to other non-hypoallergenic cats.

Siberians have warm hearts even if they come from very cold regions of Russia. They show people, especially their owners plenty of love. They tend to keep following people everywhere. They also settle down to provide company as one watches TV, reads, prepares meals, sleeps, sits, or does anything inside the home. Thus they are good companions.

The cats wait at the door to welcome their owner home. They show happiness by vocalizing in low tones. The breed is not shy like most other breeds. One can expect they to be present, maintaining they normal activities even when the house has guests.

Siberians are not only loving and attentive. They are also a very active and playful breed. It is common to see them initiate games by bringing the owner a best toy to throw. They like to play with small objects a lot. Thus, it would be a good idea to ensure that jewelry and other valuables away from their reach. They can be taught tricks easily because they are very intelligent.

Surprisingly, Siberian cats enjoy to play with water a lot. This has been thought to be because of their original way of life where they hunted for fish in the water. They may enjoy splashing water in the tubs, drinking from fountains, and making puddles by batting the paws in water. The hunter instincts in them also make them very agile and athletic.

Moderate care is needed by these cats. The coat should not be left to form tangles and mats. Tangles can be removed by brushing and combing once in a week. Shedding happens during the months of fall and spring. Thus frequency of grooming should be increased.
