Tips For Picking The Right Buckle Dog Collars For The Canine In Your Life

By Ronald Hall

Dogs can be fantastic companions and the right accessories can make it much easier for them to accompany you whether it is on a walk or running errands. Any of the buckle dog collars, for example, are a great place to attach a leash so that they cannot escape on you while you are out and about. If you are considering using one of these items, you will want to make sure that you pick one that is the right size and meets any lifestyle needs that you may have.

If you haven't owned a dog for some time, you may be surprised by all of the choices that are available nowadays. In the past, collars were only available in a few basic materials and styles. Now, however, there are options that range from plain and utilitarian to extremely decorative but less practical. There are even options that can be customized so that they suit your lifestyle and your dog's activity level.

One of the first things to consider is whether you will be using the item to control your dog or whether it will be more decorative. In the past, it was not uncommon for individuals to use a collar to control their dog but now many more people are using harnesses or other devices to make sure their dogs cannot run away when they are out for a walk. If you will be using it to keep control of your pet, you may want to look for a collar that is made of durable materials such as leather or webbing.

These items come in a variety of sizes and widths. If you want to make sure you are getting the right fit, it can be a good idea to use a measuring tape to get an accurate size for your dog's neck. Also consider if your canine is still growing or not. Depending on its breed, you may need to buy one version when it is a puppy and one when it has achieved its full adult size.

You should also think about what kinds of activities your canine will be participating in. For example, if your dog likes to swim, a collar that is made out of a waterproof material may be best. There are some synthetic options that will not rot or smell if they are exposed to water.

You need to make sure that any model you choose is durable enough to stand up to pulling and jerking. Some may not have stitching that will stand up to much wear and tear. Others may not have a ring that you can use to attach a leash or chain. You should look for well made buckles and rings that will not split or open if they are pulled on.

Finding places that sell these items is not difficult. You could begin by looking in local pet stores, department stores and hardware stores that have sections devoted to pet products. If none of these are what you are looking for you may also want to look online although you do need to make sure that the shipping costs do not end up making the collars they sell cost an excessive amount.

You may want to try fitting your dog directly in order to make sure that it fits and is comfortable for your pet. If not, you may find yourself trying on a few different options that can end up costing time and money. It can be worth it all though, to make sure that your dog is both comfortable and safe.
