Happier Companions Begin With Proper Dog Nutrition

By Dorothy Watson

There has been a lot in the news about pet food, and a lot of that news has been shockingly sad. Most pet owners don't believe what they hear, and how they have contributed, albeit unknowingly, to their pets poor health. That's why it's important to learn about dog nutrition, as most people love their pets and want to give them the best, since they are a part of their family.

In fact, many people see them as family members. It is these little guys that greet their loved ones at the door each and every time. They are the most loving and faithful creatures who only want to show their love to their owners. These four-legged family members really do deserve the best when it comes to food.

The trusted companies that prepare dog food sort of betrayed consumers and their animals. They put inside questionable ingredients, but sometimes are considered construction materials and not actual food ingredients. Without the proper supervision, when these foods are manufactured overseas, anything can go wrong. So, consumers need to do the right thing to ensure their pets, who don't have a voice and can't choose otherwise, get healthy food that's nutritious.

It's all about doing the right thing, beginning with learning how to read a nutrition label on every container or bag of food. Then, research the ingredients from beginning to end. Don't stop there, and instead continue to understand the type of reputation the company has. This is easy to do with the Internet.

Consider that the majority of ingredients that go into the cheaper dog foods are not nutritious and don't respond to the needs of any member of the canine family. If one would compare such food to human food that is served at popular chain restaurants, there wouldn't be much difference. So, imagine what happens to a dog's health when he is consuming two or three such meals each day for his entire life. Reports do exist so don't neglect the information.

Documentaries have shown clearly what happens to people who eat such food daily. In one documentary, the actor gained over 60 pounds in just a month or so, and his health suffered from it. Well that's exactly what can happen to dogs who eat cheap food.

This inexpensive food contains a lot of strange ingredients, sugar, fat, and more. Canines by nature were not meant to eat that way. Such food will make them gain an excessive amount of weight, while the sugar and fat will eventually attack their organs and shorten their lifespan.

Expect to pay more for nutritious dog food, but whatever the case, it's worth it in the end. People adopt pets because they love them. From dogs they get loyalty, protection, and companionship, something they may not even get from other people. They have so much to offer that it's important to look at ways to help them expand their lifespans.
