The French bulldog came from England and was developed because a smaller version of the English bulldog was needed. Its developed was done in the 19th century and it became very popular in Nottingham city where it was owned by lace workers. However, when the Industrial Revolution occurred and lace workers migrated to France to find better opportunities, they naturally brought them along.

The rise in popularity of the canine rose a lot in France that people started calling it the French bulldog. When it went back to England for dog shows Brits were not pleased with the renaming of a dog that has its origin in Britain. Nevertheless that did not stop the name from sticking. The canine caught the interest of the Americans at the time and in 1986 the first one showcased at Westminster Kennel Club show. The nicknamed Frenchie was automatically adopted by the Americans. As such, when one is looking to buy French Bulldogs Ohio offers one of the places they can be bought from.

The French bulldog is small in size, but is compact and sturdy. It has a square-shaped head with a rounded forehead. The muzzle is broad and deep and has a well-defined stop. The color of noses may depends on the color of the dog in general, but they are are mostly black. Upper lips cover the lower ones and the teeth meet in an underbite position.

The coat of the dog is smooth and short. There are wrinkles around the shoulders and heads. Coats are differently colored in single or multiple colors. The species is bat-eared and the ears are erected.

People are attracted to this breed of dogs because it exhibits some pleasant qualities. To begin with, the breed is easy to provide care for, alert, playful, and affectionate. It is an active species with a cool sense of serenity and calmness. They enjoy being near their owners and they find playing with children enjoyable. When it coexists with others dogs and pets, it copes just fine.

The Frenchie needs companion and leadership in order to thrive well. It should not be made to believe that it is an alpha because that may cause it to be aggressive. Also, it should not be ignored by the owner. If it realizes that the owner is meek or passive, it may become stubborn and snappish at times. As such, it is not a breed to be owned by people who cannot find time to be attentive and play with the dog.

It is not a very intelligent dog compared to other more intelligent breeds. However, it can be trained if one is calm and patient but firm and consistent. It may take some time before they master some skills. When they behave in unwanted manner, they should be corrected on the spot with firm, but calm talk.

Frenchies are very clean dogs. They tend to avoid puddles to stay clean. They do not know how to swim hence one should be careful when near a water body. However, those that have been trained can swim well.
