A Small Apartment Cat Pole Is Good For Feline Fitness

By Sarah Hughes

Even though some people enjoy living in a small place, the problem is that there is little room for much else. If a person has interests or things related to things they enjoy, like a shoe collection, space can get tight. Pets can be the perfect roommates but when there is no backyard, keeping them occupied, can be tricky. Many pet owners find that using things, like a small apartment cat pole or indoor trees can serve a purpose for those whose friends are on the active side.

Cat owners usually want their pet to enjoy life as much as possible but it can hard to set boundaries with an animal that has a history of existing outdoors. Although domesticated cats are not quite as active as their wilder relatives, many breeds appreciate a little action. Cat poles and trees often provide this.

Since cats are hunters by nature, they will often seek objects that are seen as prey. Other times, their frequent body stretch sessions are not enough, as they want to give a piece of furniture a special rub. Unless a person wants to constantly replace things around the home, getting a cat pole or tree is a good idea.

Unlike setting up an area by a window for them to sit, a pole gives several advantages. The first being that they can go up and down as they please. While this exercise seems minor, it is a lot better than having them climb atop those wall mounted speakers or shelving where precious trinkets are kept. Even if a person has a home office, productivity may be difficult when having to chase someone around the house and make them stay still.

This is why it helps to get a pole or tower that can be adjusted to reach the ceiling. In larger homes, building sturdy shelving horizontally along the walls may be suggested but in a smaller dwelling, there has to be room for the person who pays the bills. Sometimes, cats will feel smothered so giving them ample space that is the furthest from surfaces may be ideal.

As cat obesity is becoming more common, there are a number of ways to prevent this before it becomes a serious health issue. Stopping or reducing snacks between meals helps along with some physical activity. When there is a tree or tower to climbs, the excess bulk will be history.

Another problem with overweight felines is that the excess can affect their bladder. Too much pressure can cause involuntary leaks. While weight loss may take a little time with a reduced calorie diet, it is better they have their own space instead of the carpet or furnishings made of fabric.

The ideal space for placement is usually near a window or somewhere with natural sunlight. If near a bedroom or closet is the best place, there are some trees that can be installed into the door. Cats that are on the heavier side may benefit from towers or poles that do not reach the ceiling. Usually, a cat behavior specialist can give some ideas that are practical and will serve a purpose, like eliminating certain behavior patterns.
