A family is never complete without a furry friend as a family member. Because cute cuddly animals will always be a part of any family tree. And without these soft and tender hearted creatures to nurture our vulnerable side then life would just not be complete without them.

This animal originated from Canada and worked with many fishermen during the older days. However there are theories circulating around the dry mouth newfoundlands. In one theory it was said that this was a cross breed between the tibetan mastiff and the extinct american black wolf.

Therefore owning an animal or pup of this breed is not always a good idea especially if you are on a tight budget. Dogs can be an annoying creature some tend to turn out very clingy while others often turn into psychos. If you not want to turn over your mutt to the pound after a few weeks of ownership it is best that you consider the kind of mutt you want to buy or adopt.

Adopting a mutt means looking carefully through several kennels and cages of old and new mutts who have been victims of various kinds of neglect. And while there are many mutt breeders who continually cross breed different types of creatures. Because they want the convenience of owning a breed that does not shed hair nor drool on their couch.

But this breed gained a foothold as part of the kennel club around 1879 when a newfie became a champion in 1883. There several areas you need to consider about this breed of mutt such as the size, health, personality, care, feeding, grooming, and sociability. Each aspect is important because it can make or break your decision of getting a newfie.

However newfies can be susceptible to various injuries, diseases, and illnesses. But a good way to prevent any of these are to have them see a veterinarian and also review their health licenses and history too. Sometimes getting a animal is done in two ways you either buy them from a puppy mill or certified breeder. Or you visit a creature pound to adopt a creature and give one more stay another home and chance to live.

These dogs can easily be pointed due to their large size, thick shiny fur, and their exceptional snout. More over this kind of dog is very active too and is considered a working dog who needs stimulation from time to time. However if you do not have the energy nor time to keep this kind of mutt around your home then you should consider a lap dog instead.

The newfie is also prone to health problems that may or may not be common to all dogs. These problems include hypoadrenocorticism, cataracts, cherry eye, heart problems, epilepsy, hip and elbow dysplasia, cystinuria, cancer, gastric torsion, and knee injury. Though not all newfies will obtain this disease and illnesses, but to be safe always make regular appointments to the vet and check the health clearances from the breeder.

Aside that this animal has very thick fur coat which requires grooming from a professional groomer. And that could be costly depending on how much the animal sheds and needs to be groomed. More over grooming might take up to hours because of expanse of the animals coats so consider this carefully too.
